Caring about you when you need it most - 28 years in healthcare
On March 15, 2015, the Hospital marked its 28th anniversary in serving the people of Maldives. To commemorate the milestone, the hospital inaugurated new state-of-the-art ICU and NICU facilities. In addition, the Hospital inaugurated, for the first time in Maldives a teaching facility, School of Health Sciences, ADKHospital.
The chief guest of the ceremony was Ms Khadeeja Abdul Samad, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health. In her inagural remarks, she praised the achievements of the hospital and highligeted the importance of the role that the Hospital plays in the Maldives healthcare system. She also assured the support and collaboration of the Ministry of Health in facilitating the development of private healthcare sector.
The Managing Director of the Hospital, Mr Ahmed Afaal welcomed the participants and outlined the importance of the school for the development of health service provision and also provided a brief overview of the challenges faced by the providers and also the users of the system. Specifically he highlighted the bureaucracy in processes of recruitment of human resources which hinders service provision in the globalised world. He also stressed the importance of improving the national health insurance scheme to make it more benificial to the public.
Videos of the NICU and the ICU were shown with the available facilities. The tecnology and available services were prosented in detail by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Abdullah Niyaf. It was stressed that with the development of these facilities, ADK is now the most modern and well equiped intensive care provider in the Maldives with highly trained and skilled personnel.
An outline of the short course available at the School of Helath Sciences, also inagurated on the day, was highlighted by Ms Mariyam Nashrath, Director of Nursing. Many specialized short courses were proesented and the first training program was scheduled to start on 16 March 2015.
Efforts to improve quality at the Hospital we also presented at the function. This was presented by Dr Faisal Saeed, Medico-legal and Quality Assurance Executive of the Hosiptal. In his presentation, the importance of professional conduct, patient empowerment and also initiatives taken by the hospital on these grounds were highligthed.
Future and ongoing projects were also highlighted by the Managing Director. This includes the unpcoming new MRI system, theatre complex including cathlab and critical care as well as the planned expansion of the hospital to accommodate additional 80 beds.
