ADK Hospital and Diabetes Society of Maldives collaborate to insert the first ever Insulin Pump to a patient in the Maldives

May 20, 2013

For the first time in Maldives a patient underwent the insertion of a permanent insulin pump at ADK Hospital on May 18, 2013. This technology was introduced to the Maldives by the Diabetes Society of Maldives, and ADK Hospital provided the medical facilitation of this milestone.

The Insulin Pump introduced to the Maldives by DSM with the assistance of the Czech Republic's Diabetic Society is a breakthrough product that acts more like a natural organ that flushes the required amounts of insulin into the body after automatically determining the insulin concentration in the body.

This technology provides the patient with much comfort that a series of injections throughout the day.

This procedure, done for the first time locally was conducted by the professionals of ADK Hospital, with the assistance of experts from the Czech Republic.

The Hospital's Management and staff thank the DSM and the visiting experts on putting the trust and confidence on the professionals at ADK Hospital for this procedure and with this newly gained experience, the Hospital is in a position to conduct this procedure for many more patients who require this treatment.

It is always a pleasure of ADK Hospital to liaise and collaborate with the civil society organisations in ensuring that our expertise is shared to the maximum benefit of the patients that are treated.
