World Emergency Medicine Day 2022
World Emergency medicine day encourages people to come together and talk about emergency medical care. On 27th May 2022, the ER team of ADK hospital participated in raising awareness around the importance of emergency medicine.
Other than participating in the Open Day activities and teaching Basic Life Support (BLS) and Basic First Aid, ADK Hospital relayed an important message to the people of Maldives through social media.
The message being, when should a person seek emergency services?
The team of ADK Hospital advises that ER services must only be utilized during a life-threatening situation, during an illness that could potentially escalate to a life-threatening situation and if going to the ER is the only viable option available.
Here are some scenarios that requires a trip to the ER:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath or difficulties in breathing
- Unexpected changes during pregnancy
- Fits
- Deep cuts
- Extreme burns
- Broken bones
- Newborn fever
- Unusually strong headaches
- Sudden changes in eye sight
- Signs of stroke
- Difficulties in speaking
- Paralysis of one side of the body
- Paralysis of one side of the face
If any of the above signs are observed, call an ambulance or seek medical attention from the ER Team. However, if signs of common illnesses are observed, a normal consultation is recommended rather than utilizing the emergency services.
Consider consulting general OPDs if these signs are noted:
- Throat pain
- Conjunctivitis
- Pimples on any part of the body
- Ear pain
- Signs of common cold
