Setting a new benchmark in healthcare - Joint Press Release by DEG and ADK Hospital

ADK Hospitals Pvt. Ltd. and Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft, a subsidiary of KfW (DEG) hosted a joint press briefing this afternoon. The press briefing conducted to provide information to the media and the public on the very ambitious development project that ADK Hospital has embarked on with DEG financing. The project named "Setting a new benchmark in healthcare" contains a number of areas of need identified for the development of the medical sector in the Maldives. These include, the development of medical imaging services, critical and surgical care, renal dialysis and artificial reproduction therapy as well as infrastructure development and management information systems. A joint press release aslo was made which is quoted below.

 

ADK Hospital Creating New Benchmarks in Healthcare Services in the Maldives

ADK Hospital, the premier private hospital in the Maldives, has secured a long term loan of US$ 12 million from DEG, Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft, a subsidiary of KfW, to help in the implementation of the Hospital’s ambitious US$ 18.2 million investment project to upgrade and further expand its healthcare services.

The ADK Hospital, located in Malé, the capital city of the Maldives, is the first private hospital opened in the country. Since its opening in 1996, the Hospital has played a pioneering role in the provision of private health care in the Maldives whilst complementing the public health services.  In addition to the general medicine and various specialist services, ADK Hospital also offers a number of super-specialist services in such areas as neurology, oncology and urology.

“The promotion of private sector investment in the healthcare sector is a key issue of DEG. By investing into the ADK Hospital, we want to improve healthcare services for the local population of the Maldives” underlined Dr. Hubertus Pleister, Director of DEG’s Department Corporates Asia Loans.

With the new loan assistance secured from the DEG, ADK Hospital plans to build a state- of- the- art Cathlab, a new Theatre Complex with related facilities, and a new advanced Critical Care Unit (CCU) establishing new benchmarks in healthcare provision in the country.  The loan facility will also help further enhance the Hospital’s human capital through the provision of expanded services at its own School of Health Sciences, in addition to the creation of 150 or so new job opportunities at the Hospital.
